Top of the world Cover

Hi Guys,

One of the songs which has always been in my music file is “Top of the world” by the Carpenters. Though when I listen to the original I find that my version is quite different, and apart from the fact that it was originally sung by a female (Karen Carpenter) I give it a slightly different spin on it with my style of piano playing.

Then just for fun I decided to add a drum track which is a pretty straight forward track due to the fact that my keyboard does not have a big selection of drumming variations. In the future I would like to investigate a drumming machine or some software for my laptop to be able throw out a drum base line with variations.

I also recorded a pad track which helps full out the song, but I found that the song really got filled out once I added the bass into the mix.

I’m really looking forward to the song which I will do next, I havent decided which song to do yet but I am working on a couple at the moment.

Until next time.

Beautiful One

Ok, this song is not my original creation.  I did I search for the song on YouTube to see who the original performer was, and I see both Jeremy Camp and Tim Hughes have both performed it.

I recorded this over about the time space of a year, the vocals and guitar track were done first as a base which was recorded sometime back.  Then after that the second vocal track was added.  And only in March this year did I get around to recording the pad layer with my Roland RD700-NX.  I decided to add the pad as the song just seemed to be missing something, and needed the pad just to be able to carry the song.

I hope that you enjoy.

Here is the song I composed, it’s basically some background music which gets quite dramatic.  It was played on my Roland RD700-NX, and recorded using Cubase Lite.

The background picture is of the Amphitheatre in the Natal Drakensburg and was taken during a holiday with a group of friends while staying at Hlalanathi.
